My girlfriend Piper wrote this journal entry a few months ago. We thought it would be good to share. Enjoy!
I am seen the way you want to see me.
I am sorry for my imperfections and not being the way you want me to be. We are different individuals. I have flaws, imperfections, and I mess up…just like you.
Growing up I was “the leader”, “the example”, and “the role model”. But the only things you like to perceive are my flaws and imperfections.
What about the good things I do? I may come across as cruel and insensitive to your issues, but please remember that I am human…just like you.
I feel pain. I feel misery. I feel the same insecurities you feel about your body. I feel the struggles of life…just like you.
I know how difficult it can be learning to become the person God intends us to be. I know what it is like to feel the pressures of life and all the decisions forced on our minds at such a young and seemingly immature stage of life.
What you seem to be missing is that I am…just like you.
When you feel the sharp, deep, and painful knife of life sink deep into your tired and restless flesh, remember I feel these similar pains. Your struggles are not always the same as mine and mine are not the same as yours.
Followers of the One who created us to feel; I feel and you feel. We feel the emotions entailed in our everyday lives. You see I am…just like you.
I am imperfect. I am insecure. I get sad. I get angry and lose my temper. I am curious what it would be like if we could realize that we are like each other.
We have our own viewpoints and our own opinions. Realizing how different we are, yet how much we are the same makes me understand that I am…just like you.
I say these things in hopes that we can put aside our judgments, assumptions, immaturities, and complaints.
I try to be what others want me to be. You try to be what others want you to be. We are like one another.
You feel down, discouraged, insecure, used, and mistreated. So do I. We are like one another. I hurt. You hurt.
Do you see what I am saying?
Like me you are. Like you I am. We are alike. We are created different, but in the same image. We have different traits, opinions, religions, cultures, upbringings, and perceptions.
You are like me and I am…just like you.
