15 Minutes of Fame: The Starbucks Cup

Apparently there is a lot of fuss about the new Starbucks cups. When I heard that Christians were complaining about these cups, I decided to check out why. Turns out, people are angry because the cups are blank. Are you kidding me?! Apparently the cups don’t say “Merry Christmas” on them and this is a huge deal. We live in an overly sensitive, highly entitled and easily offended society.

What is the problem with these cups anyways? I had no idea a blank Starbucks cup meant the entire company hates Jesus and doesn’t care about Christmas (sarcasm here). Stop being so hyper-sensitive about an issue like this. If you are a Christian and have an issue with this cup because it doesn’t proclaim Christ, then YOU have a much bigger issue. Since when were Starbucks cups supposed to preach Christ? Isn’t that our job?

It makes me angry when I see people literally wasting their time and energy complaining about such a meaningless thing like the design on a Starbucks cup. Why don’t we talk about something that really matters; a real issue. I forgot that a blank Starbucks cup matters more than the thousands of women enslaved in sex trafficking, the millions of children without homes and the billions of people without Christ.

“Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels” (2 Timothy 2:23).

Christians, stop being so sensitive on this issue and refocus your energy to something else.
